Nursery Makeover

DSC_0278When my daughter found out she was pregnant, she asked me to help design and decorate the nursery. Our goal was to have a high-end looking nursery on a poor man’s budget. The room is small so we wanted to do anything we could to make it appear larger. The color scheme was going to be grey, white, yellow and accents of mint. At this point she did not know the sex of the baby, so gender neutral was perfect.

I bought paint, researched and continued  to collect  pieces for the nursery that I thought would be perfect, but before we could get started I had to wait for Dad and Mom to transform the playroom to a clean open space. After many goodwill runs and moving things around it was well into February before the task was complete.

We started with a bright blue room that had a yellow stripe in the middle which meant  priming all the walls first and two coats of paint to get good coverage. The room was a group effort. Sara and I painted one day and the next day Papa Mike (my husband) helped finish most of the painting and did some other work in the house. I started the chevron wall which ended up taking two days to complete. Papa Mike hung curtains, put shelves on the wall and took pictures of the whole process. Nana Marta transported the Glider rocking chair and the changing table from our house to Sara’s house. Marta also made all the bedding, including sheets and covers for the changing table. Big Sister Sienna painted a beautiful picture of an elephant to hang over the crib. I made an elephant mobile at the last-minute after not being able to find one in our price range and colors.

I bought the paint in September, the baby was due on March the 8th and it was February 25th when we were finally finished. The room ended up being grey and white with accents of yellow and mint. We were all happy with the results. The room feels larger than when we started. It is cozy and serene, perfect for a baby boy.
