DIY Projects

I have several canning jars and old apothecary bottles that are not worth much but I like the shape of them. I thought a good way to use them would be to make a centerpiece for a small get-together that I’m having. Chalk paint works well on glass because it sticks to it easily and the colors are fabulous. This is an easy project with a big impact! It would look beautiful as a wedding centerpiece, baby shower, bridal shower, birthday party or any get together that needs a centerpiece.

3 jars with different shapes
3 different chalk paints, Cream, Refreshing and Innocence
Rubbing alcohol
100 grit sandpaper
Sealer Rust-oleum Matte Clear Enamel
Circle of birch wood

Step 1 Prep

Wipe down the jars with rubbing alcohol, wash with hot water and soap, rinse well and let dry.

Step 2 Paint

Brush on the paint, I used two coats and let each coat dry before painting the next.

Step 3 Distress

After the last coat is dry use 100 grit sandpaper and sand over the raised edges, around the neck and rim of the jar. Make sure the name of the jar shows so it may need a little more sanding. Use a light touch to avoid taking off too much paint.

Step 4 Seal
